State of the Fish

Hi together, in August 2022 we started FishingLTD as a small idea: “Innovative Fishing in Minecraft”.
At first it was only planned as a small proof of concept, to show others how fishing can be improved in Minecraft.

The Beginning

Some people seemed to like the idea, so we decided to make it a real project - and here we are now. We worked over 2 months on the first version of FishingLTD. What happened after?

Scoreboard

Scoreboard scored some improvements as well. It show the fishes you caught, coins - on the more informative side - it shows weather and ingame time.

Burning out

As it should be clear, we are not a big team. We are only 3 people, 1 developer, 1 builder, 1 researcher.
I for example work full time in IT, so I have to find time for FishingLTD in my free time, which is not always easy.

In the time we were actively working on FishingLTD in 2022, we iterated fast, broke things, fixed them and iterated again. Concepts were changed, new ideas were implemented, and others were scraped. As Ben and I teamed up, the worries regarding a map were gone. I’ve worked with Ben before, so I knew he was good at what he does.

But we still needed someone to research fishes, create bobbers, spinners, quests and so on. So we asked our friend Mathilda to join us. She is a great person, and she is also a great researcher. She was able to find a lot of information about fishes, and worked on our data and the balancing for the accessories.
We released a first version of FishingLTD in August 2022, the same month we started out. We got a lot of positive feedback, and we were able to improve the plugin and the map.

Tablist

The tablist got a new look, and is a lot more informative now.

But after a while, we started to feel the pressure. We were working on FishingLTD in our free time, and we were not able to work on it as much as we wanted to. We were not able to fix bugs as fast as we wanted to, and we were not able to add new features as fast as we wanted to.

We were burning out.

We moved to work on another secret project called Lagoon - to get away from FishingLTD.
And moved on to even other projects.

The Future

The Trello board for FishingLTD is still there, and we are still working on it. We are still planning to release more of FishingLTD in 2023.
We will be trying to give more insight into our work on this blog, so you can see what we are working on, and what we are planning to do.
We also want to hear from you. What do you like about FishingLTD? What do you not like about FishingLTD? What do you want to see in FishingLTD?

Gregory

Our friend Gregory is back, he will soon be able to give you quests. He is also working on a new shop, which will be more user friendly.

Team members

The team is still the same, but we are working on different things right now.
Ralf
I’m currently refactoring the code, to make it more maintainable and easier to work with.

Ben
We are currently in contact with him, to see if he is still interested in working on FishingLTD.

Mathilda
She is back, working on the data and the balancing for the accessories. After this she will look into quests and their rewards.

Spawn

Just the usual spawn, but be sure, there is a lot more to come.

Conclusion

Thanks a lot for sticking with us, and we hope you are as excited as we are for the future of FishingLTD, and the future of fishing in Minecraft.
We will keep you updated on our progress on this blog, and for now, keep on fishing!
